This tour combines natural beauty with Inca hydraulic engineering architecture in Tipon, Wari-architecture in Pikillacta, Andahuaylillas.
After we have picked you up from your hotel, we will drive to Andahuaylillas, where we find the church “San Pedro Apostol”, often called the “Sistine Chapel of America”, (due to the quality of the artworks found inside). The church was built in the 16th Century on the foundations of a Pre-Columbian Huaca (ceremonial space).
Then, we will take a walk along the Main Square, surrounded by leafy pisonay and palm trees. The plaza is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Peru.
We continue our tour to Pikillacta’s Archaeological Complex that covers an area of 3421 hectares. Pikillacta was constructed by the Wari-Culture, occupied from 550 to 1100 AD and mainly used as a ceremonial site and also was the center city of this culture, influencing lots of other Wari-villages.
Finally, we stop at the Archaeological Complex of Tipón, located eastward of Cusco City; covering a territory of approximately 2200 hectares. It was constructed by order of the Inca Wiraqocha, as a mansion and refuge for his father Yawar Wakaq. Much more impressive are the wide agricultural terraces irrigated by a network of water channels fed by a natural spring. The site was probably used as a lab of agricultural products, due to its various mirco-climates.
