Cusco, a fascinating city was the capital of the Inca Empire. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the city you find a lot of evidence of a rich and complex history. Colonial architecture often built on top of Inca buildings, throughout the city, while the modern tourist nightlife flourishes in their midst. The city is surrounded by a number of ruins, the most impressive being Sacsayhuaman, a fortress, overseeing Cusco.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas was a crucial area for the Inca empire and it functioned as an agricultural, spiritual and political center for them. Throughout its length there are many Inca and Pre-Inca sites that can be found. The 2 main sites are in Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
