Cusco, a fascinating city was the capital of the Inca Empire. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the city you find a lot of evidence of a rich and complex history. Colonial architecture often built on top of Inca buildings, throughout the city, while the modern tourist nightlife flourishes in their midst. The city is surrounded by a number of ruins, the most impressive being Sacsayhuaman, a fortress, overseeing Cusco.
One of the archaeological world wonders is Machu Picchu, highlight of each trip to Peru. In 1911, discovered by Hiram Bingham, it is the biggest peruvian inca ruin. It is to believed that Machu Picchu had been mainly a ceremonial center.
1st day: City-Tour
Upon arrival at the airport in Cusco, you will be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have a City-Tour, including the close by archaeological sites. This includes the cathedral in the main plaza, the Santo Domingo Convent, built on the Inca temple of the sun Qoricancha. You will see Sacsayhuaman, an inca fortress with huge stones, built above the city, the water temple Tambomachay, the ceremonial center Q´engo and Pucar Pucara. At the end, you will be transferred to your Hotel.
2nd day: Machu Picchu
In the early morning, you will be transferred to the train station, that takes you directly to Aguas Calientes, at the base of Machu Picchu. A bus will take you to the entrance of the lost city and in a 3 hours guided tour, you will visit the main plaza, the sungate (Intihuatana), the temple of the 3 windows, the temple of the condor and all the other attractions of this wonder of the world. After the guided tour, you have enough time to explore this amazing place yourself. Lunch you will have in Aguas Calientes, before you take the train back to Cusco, where a private van will bring you to your hotel.
3rd day: On time, you will be transferred to the airport.
