In any panoramic view of Machu Picchu, you can see Huayna Picchu: it is the highest mountain in the landscape. The tour to the top is already a huge success among the adepts to the walks. You will see Inca ruins and on the same top an unforgettable 360 degree view. In this article we answer the frequently asked questions about the exciting adventure.

2. What should I take to Cusco and Huayna Picchu?

Another of our common questions. It depends on the season. There are two, very well defined.

  • The dry season: it goes from April to October, in the city of Cusco it is cold, windy, you must bring winter clothes. But Machu Picchu is hot, so you will also need summer clothes. There is no rain Also: sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent.
  • The rainy season: goes from November to March. In the city of Cusco it is somewhat warmer, with occasional, intense and brief rains. You must bring mixed winter / summer clothes and a waterproof jacket. In the Inca citadel it is very hot but there are also sporadic and rapid rains. Wear a lightweight waterproof jacket, always a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent.
  • To climb the Huayna Picchu: the trip to the summit takes between 1:30 and 2 hours, while the descent, between 45 minutes to 1 hour (you must add the time you will be at the top admiring the wonderful landscape). It is done in the morning before the guided tour of Machu Picchu. We recommend a polyester pole (it absorbs and dries sweat quickly), nylon shorts or shorts (resistant, absorbent), socks and mountaineering boots. A light backpack, always drink still water in the bottle (optionally mate de coca) and also bring insect repellent, sun block, dark glasses and wide hat. The use of walking stick is very advisable but optional (you can rent it with us); In the citadel of Machu Picchu those without a rubber protector at the tip are not allowed.

3. How tall is the mountain?

The summit is at an elevation of 2,693 meters, but the height of it, measured from the citadel of Machu Picchu (start of the walk) reaches 353 meters. From there you will have an unforgettable view of the sacred citadel, the entire valley and the canyon of the Urubamba River, which has already become one of the most admired and photographed on the planet.
